"Should we buy Construction Edition or just build project accounting on standard Acumatica with the Projects module?" is a question I get from general contractors evaluating the platform for the first time, usually because a previous vendor quoted them a big number for "the construction module" and they want a sanity check. What you actually get beyond the Projects module

Construction Edition adds the field-specific layer on top: RFI and submittal logs with defined approval workflows, daily field reports, commitment tracking against subcontracts, retainage handling, and the AIA-format G702/G703 pay application generated from live contract data rather than built by hand each month.
RFIs and submittals: real workflow, worth configuring deliberately
The RFI and submittal logs are not just a place to store PDFs — they carry status workflow so a submittal tracks its approval state before materials fabricate and ship, and RFIs can generate change requests when the answer changes scope. Where I spend implementation time is tuning the workflow states and routing to match how a specific GC's PMs actually work, and making sure field staff can raise an RFI from the mobile app without ten required fields standing between them and getting a question in front of the architect.
Every GC I have implemented this for has the same failure mode if skipped: office staff love the RFI/submittal logs, field superintendents ignore them because the desktop screens are not how they work.
